The Top 5 S.E.O. Rules to Remember

Having a visible website dedicated to your business is the best way to reach out to your target audience. Most of you would be tempted to rely on a professional SEO company to make your website visible on the search engine results so that you may be able to reach out to more people quickly. You should keep in mind the following SEO rules before you set out to optimize your website:-

  1. Avoid too many Web Pages
The recent Google Panda updates have targeted websites with too many pages, especially e-commerce websites that are low on content. If you own an e-commerce website, you can reduce the number of web pages, by categorizing similar products under a single page. Also, fill up each page with unique product descriptions and reviews so that they don't go low on content.

  2. Write Useful Meta Descriptions
For an online visitor to actually click on your link on the search results, you need to communicate what the website is about. The purpose of Meta description is to convey to the search engine crawlers and online visitors, what the website is about. It is important to keep the Meta description keyword rich, but do not stuff the entire 150 characters of the description with keywords. Keep the description useful and meaningful so that the visitor maybe persuaded to visit the page.

  3. Have a Unique Title
You should invest some quality time in researching unique titles for your web pages. You should choose titles that best describe your web pages. You should also keep in mind the usual search keywords that the users search and expects to see on the search results. Would you not be tempted to read a book with a short and exciting title? This applies to web pages as well. Choose a unique title that would compel a visitor to read.

  4. Use Self-explanatory file and directory names
When you create a file or directory for your web pages, name them in such a way that it describes what the web page is about. When you choose a file or directory name, do not use underscore as a separator. Hyphens are known to be the preferred separator that the search engines acknowledge.

  5. Use unique content in each page
Copying and pasting the same content in all pages with a few changes in keywords used to be an old trick in SEO, but these don't work anymore. Google flags such content and removes your website from its search results. You should fill each of your web pages with unique content. Unique, high quality content is a must for any website to rank high on the search results.
